ROKU 2100X XDS Streaming Player 1080p Review

The Roku 2100X XDS streaming player is by far the most robust and easy-to-use streamer box available. It is the perfect addition for the Magnavox MDR515H 500GB HDD and DVD-R with Digital Tuner, or the Channel Master CM-7000PAL Digital Video Recorder, or even the Zinwell ZAT-970A Digital to Analog TV Converter Box.

The Roku XDS has many advantages. Not only does it allow you to stream, from the internet, all the services that you want to use. Netflix, Hulu & Hulu Plus, Pandora, You Tube, Amazon Prime and the list goes on.  The ROKU XDS also has outputs to connect to virtually any television.  Got an old-school television that has composite inputs? Roku XDS has them. Need to be able to hook up with component? The XDS has those too. And of course it has 1080p HDMI output for that big ass flat screen covering a whole wall in your living room.

In this review we’re not going to get into the myriad of specifications and details about ROKU 2100X XDS. I’ve provided the User manual for all that information. What I am going to about is how you can use the Roku to save money. The Roku family of stream boxes is the top seller for a number many reasons. The biggest of these are ease-of-use and ongoing support, in fact the Roku 2100X XDS recently had an upgrade. The USB port on the box has been upgraded, in the latest firmware release, so that now you can play videos from your USB. At no extra cost! That is what I mean by ongoing support.

Even if you have a television that has the ability to stream directly from the Internet the Roku XDS is still a very vital and useful addition to your setup. Many TV’s built- in streaming applications leave a lot to be desired, are difficult to use and limit the features available from your favorite service. The Roku features a well designed, very easy and intuitive user interface. Many people find it easier to use than the one that’s in their television. Another feature is the versatility to simply move it to another room and hook it up to an old television. Got up some company over and you want to keep the kids entertained in another room? Set up the Roku and hand them the Roku remote and they won’t bother you again the rest of the night.

Consider this scenario. You’re tired of paying $130 a month for cable. So you call your cable company and cancel the cable. Now what? Obviously you put up an antenna and hook the other end to your HD television so you can receive the high definition signal free over the air (OTA). But your choices are pretty limited beyond that? A simple solution is to hook up a Roku 2100X XDS Streaming Player. Now you have Netflix, Hulu Plus or both. The subscription prices far lower than what you were paying, even if Netflix has recently doubled their price. Your setup is still missing something. You need a DVR to fast-forward through the commercials and record your shows. The Channel Master CM-7000PAL Digital Video Recorder is the premier easy to use DVR for recording free over the air broadcasts.

I know what you’re thinking. And yes there are costs. You’re looking at $100 bucks for the Roku XDS, about $360 bucks for the Channel Master DVR, and another $100 bucks for the antenna with connectors. So for less than $500 and little work you now cut your monthly payments by some $90 or more each month!!! That is a no brainer; it pays for itself in five months. The formula is Antenna + Roku XDS + Channel Master CM-7000PAL DVR = Freedom!!!  Of course don’t forget the DVI Gear HDMI Cable 2M (6 Feet)- Everyone forgets to get the damn cable!

Don’t take my word for it, look around antennas are popping up all over your neighborhood as they should.  The greedy cable companies charge WAY TOO MUCH! It’s time for you to join the revolution, save some money and change the world.
